SX sends out +EV (positive expected value) alerts whenever the odds on SX are out of sync with Pinnacle. If you're seeing the alerts and aren't quite sure how to understand the information in front of you, here's your guide!
If you're not sure what +EV is or would like to learn more about +EV betting, check out this article.
1. Match: the match where a +EV is available will always be the first line of the alert. In this case, there's +EV available on a Dota 2 match.
2. The Odds on SX Bet: the second line on the alert tells you which team to bet on, what the odds are on the SX Bet exhange, and how much liquidity is available at those odds. In this case, Tundra moneyline is available at +111 for a maximum bet of $25,800.
3. Pinny (odds on Pinnacle Sportsbook): the third line of the alert tells you what the odds for that bet are on Pinnacle. Pinnacle is considered the 'gold standard', and is used as a benchmark to determine if a bet is positive EV or not. In this case, Pinnacle is offering Tundra at -113.
4. No-vig (odds on Pinnacle Sportsbook with the vig removed): the fourth line of the alert tells you what the odds for that bet are on Pinnacle, but with the vig removed. When the odds on SX Bet are better than the vig-free Pinnacle odds, the bet is considered to have a positive expected value, or be +EV, for short.
Every sportsbook builds a profit margin into their odds. This is called the vig (or juice), and it makes the total implied probabilities of all outcomes add up to more than 100%. To find the true probability of an event (and thus the EV of. the bet), we need to "remove the vig”.
This give us a more accurate estimate of the true EV, or expected value of the bet.
5. Link: the final item on the alert is a link to the market where the +EV bet is available on SX Bet. In this example, it takes us to the moneyline market where +EV is available on Tundra to win this Dota 2 match.
